August 16th and 17th - For the second season in a row, Man United started with a new manager against Swansea. After a decent pre-season hopes were high around Salford that a corner had been turned. However, the Swans had different ideas and a late winner from Gylfi Sigurdsson saw the van Gaal era off to a bad start. Crosstown rivals Man City started the defence of their title with a good two-nil win at Newcastle - David Silva and Sergio Aguero scored the goals in that one. Arsenal needed a very late winner against Crystal Palace to earn the three points. Aaron Ramsey scored with couple of minutes to go against the managerless Eagles. Eric Dier marked his debut for Spurs with an injury-time winner at West Ham - a good way to introduce yourself to your new club. Liverpool began life after Suarez with a laboured two-one win over Southampton at Anfield. Daniel Sturridge scored the decisive goal in that game after Nathaniel Clyne had equalised an opener from Raheem Sterling. Saturday was a mixed day for the newly promoted sides. Leicester came from behind twice to earn a point at home to Everton. James Chester scored the only goal at Loftus Road as Hull beat QPR. Elsewhere, Aston Villa had a very good one-nil win at Stoke - Andreas Weimann was the match winner in that one. West Brom and Sunderland played out an entertaining two-all draw at the Hawthorns. Our first leaderboard of the season sees three people leading on 50 points each - well done to Fiachra Moynihan, Shane Horan and Maria Jordan for setting the pace early on. Full details below: |

August 23rd and 24th - Ahead of the big game on Monday night between Man City and Liverpool, only three teams made it two wins from two so far. Chelsea followed up Monday night's win at Burnley with another handy victory over one of the promoted teams. Diego Costa scored his second goal of the season as they beat Leicester City two-nil at Stamford Bridge. Eden Hazard was also on the mark in that game. Swansea beat Burnley one-nil at the Liberty Stadium thanks to a Nathan Dyer goal to keep up their good start. Spurs put four past QPR on Sunday to go top of the early table. It was a very unhappy return to White Hart Lane for Harry Redknapp as Rangers shipped goals to Chadli (2), Adebayor and Dier to drop to the bottom of the table. Arsenal needed a late comeback at Goodison Park to earn a two-all draw against Everton. Goals from Seamus Coleman and Steven Naismith had the Toffees reaching for the dvd recorders but two goals in the last seven minutes from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud saw the spoils shared. Elsewhere, Man United picked up a vital point in the relegation battle. They drew one-all at Sunderland - Juan Mata opened the scoring but Louis van Gaal's side were pegged back by a Jack Rodwell equaliser. Hull are still unbeaten - they drew one-all with Stoke to make it four points from two games. Aston Villa and Newcastle couldn't muster a point between them at Villa Park. Likewise at St Marys where it finished scoreless between Southampton and West Brom. Time stood still at Selhurst Park where Stweart Downing, Carlton Cole and Marouane Chamakh were all on the scoresheet as West Ham beat Crystal Palace three-one. Rhona Devlin is the new leader for August with a score of 100 points. She's five points clear of newcomer Anthony Hughes with Wayne Donovan a further five points behind - all to play for with a week to go in the first monthly competition of the season: |

August 30th and 31st - Goals galore on Saturday as the champions fell to a shock defeat at home to Stoke. Mame Biram Diouf scored the only goal at the Etihad as Man City failed to score at home for only the second time in seventy-one matches. That defeat meant Chelsea and Swansea went joint top with three wins from three after Saturday's action. Diego Costa scored in the first and last minute at Goodison Park as Chelsea won six-three at Everton. That game included a remarkable five goals in ten minute spell as Jose Mourinho's side laid down an early season marker at what has been a bogey ground for them over the years. Swansea beat West Brom three-nil at the Liberty Stadium to continue their great start to the season. Nathan Dyer scored twice in that game. Man United are still without a win. They drew nil-all at Burnley in the early kick off. Angel di Maria made his debut but was unable to inspire Louis van Gaal's side to victory. Sean Dyche's side were happy to pick up their first point of the season. there was better news for one of the other promoted sides. QPR scored their first goal and earned their first victory of the season beating Sunderland at Loftus Road. Southampton also recorded their first victory of the season. They picked up a very decent three points winning three-one at West Ham. Neil Warnock celebrated his return to the hot seat at Crystal Palace overseeing a three-all draw at Newcastle. Wilfried Zaha, back on loan from Man United, scored an injury time equaliser for the Eagles in that one. Sunday's games saw Liverpool bounce back from defeat at Man City with a comprehensive three-nil win at Spurs - Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard and Alberto Moreno scored the goals for Brendan Rodgers who celebrated his 100th game in charge of the Reds in fine style. Aston Villa's good start to the season continued with a two-one win over Hull. They were two up with goals from Agbonlahor and Weimann before Jelvic pulled one back for the visitors. Arsenal rounded off the weekend's action by dropping points again - they were held one all by Leicester despite Alexis Sanchez opening the scoring. Padraic Carney's decision to opt for a one-all scoreline in the Leicester vs Arsenal game was a wise one - it gave him the ten points that was enough to win the August monthly competition. He had five points to spare over Anthony Hughes, David Cooney, Rhona Devlin and Wayne Donovan. You can see the final standings for August below: |
