December 2nd and 3rd - The two horse race at the top of the table continued during the midweek fixtures. Spurs haven't won at Stamford Bridge since 1990 and that run shows no sign of stopping after a comprehensive three-nil win for Jose Mourinho's side who scored through Hazard, Drogba and Remy. Man City came from behind to record an impressive four-one win at Sunderland - Sergio Aguero took centre stage, scoring twice after Conor Wickham opened the scoring. Futher goals from Jovetic and Zabaleta gave the scoreline an impressive look. Southampton are still third despite another defeat. Alexis Sanchez scored in the last minute at the Emirates to give Arsenal a very important three points. Man United's two-one win at home to Stoke sees them consolidate fourth spot. West Ham won by the same scoreline at West Brom and stay fifth. A good week continued for Liverpool with a three-one win at Leicester - Lallana, Gerrard and Henderson scored the goals for Brendan Rodgers side in that one. City rivals Everton slipped up at home to Hull, drawing one-all at Goodison Park. Elsewhere, Burnley drew one-all at home to Newcastle. Christian Benteke scored the only goal at Selhurst Park as Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace. Swansea picked up another three points home - they beat QPR two-nil. |

December 6th and 7th - Papiss Cisse likes a goal against Chelsea and added two more to his collection as Newcastle shocked the leaders in the early kick off. Despite Steven Taylor's sending off and a late Chelsea onslaught following Didier Drogba's goal, the Toon held on for a famous victory. Man City took full advantage to close the gap at the top to just three points as Yaya Toure scored the only goal as they beat Everton one-nil at the Etihad. The loss of Sergio Aguero after two minutes with injury will be a worry for Manuel Pellegrini's side though. Elsewhere, Peter Crouch scored after nineteen seconds as Stoke beat Arsenal three-two at the Britannia Stadium. They were three up and had another disallowed before the Gunners pulled two goals back. The comeback ran out of steam once Callum Chambers was sent off as Stoke held on for a famous victory. Elsewhere there wasn't much to report in the Saturday games as Liverpool versus Sunderland, Hull versus West Brom and Tottenham versus Crystal Palace all finished scoreless. QPR did manage a couple of goals though in their two-nil win at home to Burnley which sees them move out of the bottom three. Sunday's games saw both home sides victorious. Andy Carroll scored twice as West Ham beat Swansea three-one to move into third place. Aston Villa then came from behind to beat Leicester two-one. Joe O'Hehir is the early leader on the December leaderboard with a score of 90 points. He's five points clear of Fiachra Moynihan in second place so far: |

December 13th and 14th - Chelsea maintained their three point lead at the top of the table with a two-nil win at home to Hull. Eden Hazard and Diego Costa scored in each half for the leaders. Former Chelsea player Frank Lampard scored the only goal as Man City's recent good run continued with a one-nil win at Leicester. Of more concern to the champions will be an injury to Vincent Kompany who joins Sergio Aguero on the sidelines. Arsenal got back to winning ways with a four-one at home to Newcastle - Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla both scored twice as the curse of the manager of the month award came back to haunt Alan Pardew. Southampton's poor run of form continued as they lost one-nil at Burnley - Ashley Barnes scored the winning goal after Dusan Tadic missed from the spot for the Saints. Elsewhere, West Brom beat Aston Villa one-nil at the Hawthorns. The points were shared at the Stadium of Light when Sunderland and West Ham drew one-all. It was the same scoreline at Selhurst Park where the footballing purists were treated to an encounter between Crystal Palace and Stoke. Sunday's games saw the predictable Liverpool collapse at Old Trafford where the hosts won by three goals to nil. Strikes from Rooney, Mata and van Persie saw United consolidate third place and move eight points behind leaders Chelsea. Enough said on that one. Tottenham won two-one at Swansea with a very late winner from Christian Eriksen. Richard Johnston is the new leader in the December competition with 145 points. He has a five point lead over Eamon Fox and Fiachra Moynihan in joint second place - full details below: |

December 20th and 21st - With Chelsea not playing until Monday night, Man City took full advantage to move level on points with the leaders. They needed three second half goals to beat Crystal Palace in the early kick off. David Silva scored twice with Yaya Toure adding the third late on as the champions continued their impressive run. Man United's winning streak came to an end as they were held by Aston Villa. Christian Benteke had the hosts ahead but Gabby Agbonlahor seeing red after Falcao's equaliser, Paul Lambert's side would have been happy with the point. West Ham are only a point behind United now in fourth spot. They beat Leicester two-nil at Upton Park with Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing on the scoresheet. Liverpool will probably bid 60 million in January for their former stars after that performance. Southampton got back to winning ways with a three-nil win at home to Everton. An own goal from Lukaku (stop laughing at the back....) was followed by goals from Pelle and Yashida as the Saints remained in fifth place. Elsewhere, QPR came from two down to beat West Brom. Charlie Austin scored a hat trick in that one - the first hat trick from a QPR player in ten years apparently. Across London, Tottenham climbed to sixth in the table with a two-one win at home to Burnley. Swansea also picked up three points winning one-nil at Hull. Sunday's games saw Sunderland once again get the better of Newcastle one-nil at St James Park. Adam Johnson scored the goal late on which settled the Tyne Wear Derby in Gus Poyet's side favour. Liverpool and Arsenal shared the points and four goals at Anfield. Philippe Coutinho had Liverpool ahead but goals from Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud saw the Gunners leading late on. However, Martin Skrtel equalised in the 96th minute to ensure both teams took home a point and the webmaster had a better trip home from Merseyside ; ) Richard Johnston is still the man to catch in the December competition - he now has 185 points and leads Barry Healy by ten - full details below: |

December 26th - Two wins in a week leave Chelsea three points clear at the top. They beat West Ham two-nil on St Stephen's Day to maintain their lead. John Terry scored for the second time in five days, following up his opener at Stoke with another goal against the Hammers. With both Manchester teams winning, the top three remains unchanged. City won three-one at West Brom with goals from Fernando, Toure and Silva. United won by the same scoreline at home to Newcastle - Wayne Rooney was on the mark twice in that one. West Ham's defeat allowed Southampton to move back into the top four - they won three-one at Crystal Palace. Arsenal and Spurs are level on 30 points as both sides won two-one. Arsenal struggled to beat QPR but eventually won with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Tomas Rosicky. Harry Kane scored again for Spurs in their win at Leicester. Liverpool's return to form continued as they beat Burnley one-nil at Turf Moor - Raheem Sterling scored the only goal in that one. Hull picked up an excellent three points winning three-one at Sunderland. They're out of the relegation zone after that win. Elsewhere, Stoke won one-nil at Everton - Bojan scored the only goal at Goodison Park. Swansea beat Aston Villa one-nil at the Liberty Stadium - Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the winner for Garry Monk's side ahead of their visit to Anfield on Monday night. |

December 28th and 29th - The last round of fixtures in 2014 saw none of the top six win. Chelsea were held to a one-all draw at Southampton. The Saints lead through Mane but were happy with a point once Eden Hazard equalised and Morgan Schneiderlin was sent off late on. Man City looked to be cutting the gap to just one point when they were two-up at home to Burnley at half time. However, second half goals from George Boyd and Ashley Barnes ensured Sean Dyche's side earned a very useful point and the champions failed to close the gap on the leaders. Man United drew nil-all at Spurs and remain ten points off the pace. Arsenal jumped to fifth, ahead of opponents West Ham, after winning two-one at Upton Park. Goals from Cazorla and Welbeck saw the Gunners two-one up at half time - Kouyate pulled one back for the Hammers but Arsenal held on despite a late onslaught. At the bottom, Leicester won one-nil at Hull in a game which saw both sides finish with ten men. They're only three adrift of both Burnley and Crystal Palace now - Palace began life without Neil Warnock with a nil-all draw at QPR. Stoke beat West Brom two-nil with Mame Diouf scoring twice. Sunday's action completed with Newcastle coming from behind to beat Everton three-two at St James Park. Kone opened the scoring for Everton but goals from Cisse, Perez and Colback had the Toon cruising until Mirallas pulled one back for the Toffees late on. The hosts held on though for their first win since beating Chelsea in November. The last match of 2014 saw Liverpool beat Swansea four-one at Anfield - Adam Lallana scored twice in that one to leave Liverpool just five points off fourth spot. That result was enough for Eamon Fox to win the December competition with 270 points - five clear of Barry Healy in second place - full details below: |
