January 1st - Six of the ten games on New Year's Day ended in draws. Two of the games which didn't involved the top two. Man City and Chelsea now have identical records at the top of the table. City led Sunderland two-nil but needed a late winner from Frank Lampard to go level on points ahead of Chelsea's visit to Spurs in the late game. That was an eight goal thriller starring Harry Kane which Spurs eventually won by five goals to three. Those results leave both teams with identical records - 46 points each and a goal difference of 25. All to play for in 2015 so! Man United remain in third place, nine points off the lead, after they drew at Stoke. Ryan Shawcross opened the scoring for the Potters but Falcao equalised for United. Southampton consolidated fourth spot with an excellent two-nil win at home to Arsenal. Mane and Tadic scored the goals for Ronald Koeman's side whose excellent season continues. Among the draws was Liverpool's two all draw with Leicester. Despite receiving a head start from two dodgy penalties converted by Steven Gerrard they still couldn't win and once Leicester equalised through David Nugent and Jeffrey Schlupp they were lucky to get a point. No wonder the skipper confirmed he'd be leaving the club at the end of the season shortly after that one! West Ham also drew - they were ahead against West Brom but the points were shared after Berahino equalised and my accumulator was ruined. Newcastle and Burnley shared six goals at St James Park. Despite losing three players to injury in the first half, Sean Dyche's side came from behind three times to earn a point. QPR and Swansea also drew one-all - Wilfried Bony scored a late equaliser for the Swans in that one after coming off the bench. The honeymoon is well and truly over for Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park - they've lost four in a row now after a two-nil defeat at Hull and are only four points clear of the relegation zone.... The first leaderboard of 2015 sees Dave Byrne lead on 45 points. He's five clear of Aidan White with Keith Horan, Gerry Draper and Sean O'Mairtin five further back: |

January 10th and 11th - Chelsea's two-nil win at home to Newcastle was enough to send them two points clear at the top again. Goals in each half from Oscar and Diego Costa were enough for the Blues to regain the lead. Man City went ahead at Goodison late on through Fernandinho but an equaliser from Steven Naismith for Everton checked their recent progress. Spurs recent good run came to an end at Selhurst Park. Despite Harry Kane's opener, Crystal Palace hit back through goals from Marcus Gayle and Jason Puncheon to earn victory in Alan Pardew's first game in charge. West Brom also won their first game under a new manager - Saido Berahino scored his ninth goal of the season to ensure the Tony Pulis era at the Hawthorns got off to a winning start against Hull. Lazar Markovic scored the only goal at the Stadium of Light as Liverpool moved to within striking distance of the top six against Sunderland. Leicester also won one-nil - Paul Konchesky scored the winner for them at home to Aston Villa. Burnley moved out of the relegation zone with a two-one win at home to QPR - Scott Arfield and Danny Ings scored for the hosts in that one either side of an equaliser from Charlie Austin on his return to Turf Moor. Saturday's final game saw Swansea and West Ham share the points after a one-all draw at the Liberty Stadium. Sunday's games saw Arsenal pick up three points with a three-nil win at home to Stoke. Alexis Sanchez picked up another ten bonus points for his followers with a brace in that one. Southamption won one-nil at Old Trafford - Dusan Tadic came off the bench to score the winner in that one to record Southampton's first win in Salford since 1988. Interestingly, United now have 37 points from 21 games - an identical record to this time last year under David Moyes.... We have joint leaders in the January competition after this weekend's games - David Byrne and Sean O'Mairtin share the lead on 85 points - full details below: |

January 17th and 18th - On a weekend when seven of the nine games played ended in victory for the away side, Chelsea stretched their lead over Man City to five points. A tough looking away fixture for Chelsea ended in a five-nil victory at Swansea - Diego Costa and Oscar scored twice each heaping the pressure on the champions ahead of Arsenal's visit on Sunday. A first half penalty from Santi Cazorla was added to by a header from Olivier Giroud to give the Gunners a huge three points in the race for Champions League football next season. Man City now head to Stamford Bridge in two week's time knowing defeat might just see a premature end to their title defence. Southampton continue to defy the odds in third place. Two goals from Eljero Elia were enough to earn three points at Newcastle. Man United remain in fourth spot after a two-nil win at QPR with goals from Fellaini and Wilson. Christian Eriksen scored a very late winner as Spurs beat Sunderland two-one at White Hart Lane. Fabio Borini and Ricky Lambert scored the goals as Liverpool beat Aston Villa two-nil - they went above West Ham for 24 hours but the Hammers beat Hull three-nil on Sunday to move back into seventh. Alan Pardew's great start at Crystal Palace continued - they came from two down to beat Burnley three-two, ruining my weekend accumulator in the process. Leicester remain bottom of the table after losing one-nil at home to Stoke. David Byrne now leads the January leaderboard by ten points - he's followed by Liam Geraghty in second place - full details below: |

January 31st - Chelsea end the month five points clear of Man City after they drew one-all at Stamford Bridge. Loic Remy opened the scoring for the hosts but the champions struck back with a quick equaliser from David Silva. Neither side could find a winner in the second half so Jose Mourinho's men have a five point lead as January draws to a close. Man United moved upto third place with Southampton not playing until Sunday. They had a comfortable three-one win at home to Leicester with Van Persie and Falcao on the scoresheet. Tottenham's excellent run continued with a three-nil win at West Brom - Christian Eriksen scored another free kick and Harry Kane added two more as Spurs climbed to fifth in the table. Liverpool made it five wins from six with a two-nil win at home to West Ham - Raheem Sterling opened the score with Daniel Sturridge adding the second on his long awaited comeback as the Reds over took Sam Allardyce's side in the table. There were no changes in the relegation zone as the bottom four all lost. Leicester are still at the foot of the table after losing at Old Trafford. QPR made it eleven wins on the bounce away from home losing three-one at Stoke - Jonathan Walters scored a hat trick in that one. Hull lost three-nil at home to Newcastle while Burnley lose two-nil at Sunderland. Saturday's other game saw Everton win one-nil at Crystal Palace - Romelu Lukaku socred an early winner in that one. January's leaderboard ended with a three way tie at the top - David Byrne, Sean O'Mairtin and Jonathan Fox all finished the month with 155 points - full details below: |
