January 1st to 3rd - Liverpool's long unbeaten run came to an end at the Etihad. In a compelling game, decided by fine margins, Man City won a must-win game by two goals to one. Sergio Aguero scored his usual goal at home to Liverpool to open the scoring. Roberto Firmino headed a second half equaliser but Leroy Sane conjured up a winner for Pep Guardiola's side. The gap at the top is just four points now with seventeen games to play and plenty of twists and turns too no doubt.

Tottenham recovered from defeat at home to Wolves, winning three-nil in Cardiff. Goals from Kane, Son and Eriksen saw them move to within six points of first place. Chelsea's scoreless draw at home to Southampton leaves the battle for fourth place wide open. Arsenal's four-one win at home to Fulham leaves them just three points behind. Man United's revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues - their two-nil win at Newcastle leaves them just six points off the top four with both Chelsea and Arsenal still to face United before the season's end.

Burnley were the big winners in the relegation battle. Their two-one win at Huddersfield lifted them out of the bottom three. Ashely Barnes and Chris Wood scored the goals for the Clarets, cancelling out Steve Mounie's opener. Crystal Palace also picked up a very useful three points, winning two-nil at Wolves.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Watford shared the points after a six goal first half ended three-all at the Vitality Stadium. West Ham picked up a point after coming from two goals down to draw at home to Brighton - Marko Arnautovic scored both goals for the Hammers in that one. Jamie Vardy got off the mark for the calendar year scoring the only goal in Leicester's one-nil win at Everton.

Micheal Joyce is our early leader in January. He has 49 points and a five point lead over Gerry Moore in second place. Gavin Morgan and Aidan Scanlon complete the top four for the month so far - full details below:

The race ain't run yet...

Four in a row for the competition winner....

January 12th to 14th - With Man City not playing until Monday night, Liverpool won one-nil at Brighton to re-establish a seven point lead over the reigning champions. Normal service was resumed with Mo Salah scoring the only goal of the game with a second half penalty - his 14th league goal of the season. Tottenham's title challenge looks all but over as they slipped to their sixth defeat of the season. Marcus Rashford scored the only goal at Wembley on Sunday afternoon as a revitalised Man United won for the sixth consecutive game under Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer.

Newcastle dropped back into the bottom three following defeat at Chelsea on Saturday evening. The Blues won two-one with goals from Pedro and Willian. Ciaran Clark had equalised for Rafa Benitez' side just before half time in that one. Chelsea are now six points clear in the race for fourth - Arsenal slumped to a one-nil defeat at West Ham where Declan Rice scored his first league goal for the Hammers. The hosts moved up to ninth with that win.

At the bottom, the Southampton revival continued - James Ward Prowse and Shane Long scored in a two-one win at Leicester. The Saints are now outside the relegation zone. Fulham scored three times at Burnley but two own goals ensured the luckless Cottagers lost two-one. Claudio Ranieri's side are now five points from safety and in deep deep trouble. Huddersfield are also in big trouble - they picked up a point in a nil-all draw at Cardiff, the highlight of which was Neil Warnock's post-match rant about Brexit.

Elsewhere this weekend, Watford won two-one at Crystal Palace. Palace lead through Craig Cathcart's own goal but an equaliser from the same man plus a goal from Tom Cleverley ensured the Hornets moved up to seventh in the table. Everton picked up three points at home to Bournemouth with a two-nil win. Kurt Zouma and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for the Blues in that one.

Those results mean Aidan Scanlon and Brendan Maguire share top spot in the January competition with 76 points each. They hold a five point lead over three people who complete the top five - Brian Mullen, Gerry Moore and Micheal Joyce. Full details below:

January 19th and 20th - It's as you were at the top of the table with wins for the top three. Liverpool and Crystal Palace played out another four-three classic at Anfield. The Reds had to dig very deep to maintain their four point lead at the top coming from behind at half-time with goals from Salah (2), Firmino and Mane. Townsend, Tomkins and Meyers scored for Roy Hodgson's side but the leaders held on despite James Milner's late red card. No such troubles for Man City as they cruised to a three-nil victory at managerless Huddersfield. Goals from Danilo, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane kept Pep Guardiola's side in contention. With Harry Kane facing six weeks out injured, Spurs turned to another Harry, Harry Winks, to score an injury time winner at Fulham. Fernando Llorente put through his own goal to give the lead to Claudio Ranieri's side. However, strikes from Dele Alli and Harry Winks kept Spurs nine points off top spot.

The battle for fourth spot got interesting. Arsenal beat Chelsea two-nil at the Emirates on Saturday evening to move to within three points of the visitors. Lacazette and Koscielny scored for Unai Emery's side. Man United are on the same points as Arsenal - they beat Brighton two-one at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

Newcastle swapped places with Cardiff dropping into the bottom three after their meeting at St James' Park. The Toon scored three without reply with defender Fabian Schar an unlikely goalscoring hero in that one, scoring twice. Southampton's good run continued - they beat Everton two-one at St Marys. James Ward Prowse scored to set them on their way with an own goal from Lucas Digne putting them two-up before Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled one back for the visitors. Ther're level on points now with Burnley who drew nil-all at Watford.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Diego Jota scored a hat-trick (including an injury time winner) as Wolves edged out Leicester four-three. Callum Wilson and Josh King socred the goals as Bournemouth beat West Ham to earn their first win in five games.

Brendan Maguire now leads the January competition on his own with a score of 140 points. He's five clear of Con McSweeney in second place. Niall Carroll, Gavin Morgan and Brian Prendergast complete the top five. Full details below:

January 30th and 31st - It looked like Man City were going to cut Liverpool's lead to just one point when Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after just 30 seconds away to Newcastle. However, the home side perservered and second half goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie were cheered loudly on the Red half of Merseyside. The cheers were somewhat muted then on Wednesday night when Jurgen Klopp's side failed to take full advantage of City's slip. Sadio Mane scored within two minutes but Leicester came away from Anfield with a well-deserved point when Harry Maguire scored an equaliser just before half-time. The gap at the top was extended to five points but it was definitely an opportunity missed by Liverpool to go seven clear. Tottenham came from behind to beat Watford at Wembley. Craig Cathcart opened the scoring for the visitors but goals from Llorente and Son leave them just seven points behind Liverpool.

Arsenal kept up their top four pursuit with a two-one win at home to Cardiff thanks to goals from Lacazette and Aubameyang. That win was good enough for the Gunners to take fourth spot on goal difference after Chelsea crashed to a four-nil defeat at Bournemouth on Wednesday night. Josh King scored twice as Eddie Howe's side scored four in the second half.

Man United needed two goals in the last three minutes to earn a point at home to Burnley. Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood had the Turf Moor side two up but late strikes from Paul Pogba (penalty) and Victor Lindelof ensure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's unbeaten start continued. Sean Dyche, for his part, remains unbeaten on a Tuesday night in the league!! United remain just two points outside the top four now.

Fulham came from two down to beat Brighton four-two at Craven Cottage. Glenn Murray scored twice for the visitors in the first half. However, second half strikes from Mitrovic (2), Chambers and Vietto saw Claudio Ranieri's side pick up a vital three points in the relegation battle.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Richarlison scored for the first time in a while as Everton won one-nil at Huddersfield. Wolves are seventh in the table after Raul Jiminez scored twice in a three-nil win over West Ham.

Two ten-pointers on Wednesday night were enough for Con McSweeney to win the January competition with a score of 167 points. Brendan Maguire finished second, twelve points behind our winner. The top five for January was completed by Craig Calvert, Niall Carroll and Matthew Lynch. Final scores for January below:
