May 2nd and 3rd - Chelsea clinched their fourth title in their illustrious eleven year history with a typically uninspirining one-nil win at home to Crystal Palace. An Eden Hazard goal just before half time had the plastic flags in full flight as Mourinho's side were finally proclaimed champions. Man City won Sunday's second game to move to second in the table - Sergio Aguero scored the only goal at White Hart Lane as Spurs faltered.

Burnley and QPR look like certainties for relgation after just one season back in the Premier League. Michael Duff was sent off and Mark Noble scored the winner from the subsequent penalty as West Ham beat Sean Dyche's side one-nil at Upton Park. Liverpool beat QPR two-one at Anfield in a game overshadowed by the tragic death of Rio Ferdinand's wife. Philippe Coutinho put Liverpool in front before Leroy Fer equalised for Rangers. Steven Gerrard then had time to miss a late penalty before heading in a winner at the Kop end with just three minutes to go. The long goodbye continues....

Leicester and Sunderland were the big winners in the relegation battle. Leicester put three past Newcastle without reply. Ulloa with two and Wes Morgan scored for the hosts. Newcastle have now lost eight games on the bounce since John Carver took over and are in grave danger of going down now too. Jordi Gomez scored two penalties as Sunderland beat Southampton two-one at the Stadium of Light to help their survival prospects.

Elsewhere, Man United are doing their best to throw away fourth spot. They lost without scoring for the third game in a row. A deflected free kick from Chris Brunt was enough for West Brom to win at Old Trafford - Robin van Persie missed a penalty late on for the hosts in that one. Aston Villa's recent good run continued - they beat Everton three-two at Villa Park. Christian Benteke (2) and Tom Cleverley were on the scoresheet in that game. Swansea are in eighth place after two late goals saw them beat Stoke two-nil at the Liberty Stadium.

The early leaderboard for May sees Gavin Morgan and Kevin Philpott share the lead on 50 points - they're five clear of Brian Sotolongo and Ralph Goodwin:

Champions....

Signing off....

May 9th and 10th - Burnley's short return to the Premier League came to an end despite victory at Hull. Danny Ings scored the only goal at the KC Stadium but results elsewhere ensured Burnely became the first team to be relegated this season. Hull now occupy the final relegation spot and with games to come against Tottenham and Man United to come, they might be the third team for the drop.

QPR's relegation was also confirmed this weekend - they shipped six without reply to be the second team relegated. Sergio Aguero scored a hat trick in that one, ensuring a handy fifteen point bonus for the 21 players that picked him in the bonus category.

As is the norm at this time of the season, the teams in danger start to find some form and pick up points. Sunderland won two-nil at Everton - Danny Graham and Jermain Defoe scored the all important goals for Dick Advocaat's side. Leicester won by the same scoreline at home to Southampton. Riyad Mahrez scored both goals in that one as the Foxes made it six wins from seven. Tom Cleverley scored the only goal at Villa Park as the cup finalists beat West Ham to possibly ensure their survival for another season.

Man United's two-one win at Crystal Palace virtually ensured their return to the Champions League Qualifiers next season. Mata and Fellaini scored the goals at Selhurst Park. That result meant Liverpool needed to win at Chelsea to keep their faint hopes alive. However, a one-all draw leaves the Reds six points and fourteen goals behind United with just two games to play.

Interesting to see the leaders in the overall competition finishing the season strongly - Ralph Goodwin leads the May competition on 105 points - Con McSweeney is next best on 95 points followed by Andy Dunne, Brian Sotolongo and Gavin Morgan on ninety points:

Too little, too late....

The Great Escape with Nigel Pearson
in the Steve McQueen role????

May 16th and 17th - It's one from three for the last relegation spot on the final day of the season. Hull will need to beat Man United at home on the last day to have any chance of survival. They lost two-nil at Spurs this weekend and still have never won a Premier League match in May. Newcastle could still go down - despite taking the lead at relegated QPR, they lost two-one with Leroy Fer scoring the winner for Rangers.

Sunderland's draw with Leicester sees the Foxes safe - Nigel Pearson's side have pulled off one of the great escapes in Premier League history, having been five points adrift at one stage. A point for Sunderland in one of their remaining two games will see them safe - only problem is that both of those games are away to Arsenal and Chelsea! Aston Villa are also safe despite a six-one hammering at Southampton. A hat trick in two minutes and fifty six seconds from Sadio Mane saw Robbie Fowler's long standing record broken.

Steven Gerrard's last game at Anfield ended in a three-one victory for Crystal Palace. They proved to be the party poopers for Liverpool once again in a much deserved victory thanks to goals from Puncheon, Zaha and Murray. As a Liverpool fan (you may have noticed....) I fear for our future when the players left behind can't even raise a performance for the captain on his last day. Romelu Lukaku scored an injury time winner for Everton at West Ham. Relegated Burnley and Stoke played out a scoreless draw at Turf Moor.

Sunday's games saw Man City win four-two at Swansea to guarantee a place in next season's Champions League group stages. Arsenal need a point from their final two games to ensure the same following their one-all draw at Old Trafford where Ander Herrera's opener was cancelled out by Theo Walcott's late strike.

With one week left in the season, Ralph Goodwin looks a good bet for the May monthly prize - he has 150 points and is 25 clear of his nearest rivals - Brian Sotolongo and Con McSweeney - full details below:

Thanks for the memories Stevie....

Call Roy Castle...he's a record breaker....

May 24th - The last remaining issue of the season was decided when Newcastle beat West Ham two-nil to confirm Hull's relegation. Sissoko and Guttierez scored the goals which saved the Toon Army from an embarrassing relegation. Hull still haven't won a Premier League match in May - they did hold Man United to a scoreless draw on the final day but it wasn't enough to prevent them dropping down a division.

Champions Chelsea lifted the trophy after a three-one win at home to Sunderland - Diego Costa scored one with Loic Remy adding two in that one. Last season's champions Man City finished with a two-nil win at home to Southampton - Frank Lampard and Sergio Aguero scored in that one. Theo Walcott scored a hat trick as Arsenal warmed up for next weekend's cup final with a four-one win at home to West Brom.

Spurs finished fifth after Harry Kane scored the only goal at Goodison Park as they beat Everton one-nil. Liverpool capitulated at Stoke losing six-one - their heaviest defeat in 62 years - Steven Gerrard signed off with a goal in that one.

Leicester's strong finish to the season ended with a five-one thrashing of QPR at the King Power Stadium. Relegated Burnley won one-nil at cup finalists Aston Villa - Danny Ings scored the only goal at Villa Park. Crystal Palace beat Swansea one-nil at Selhurst Park to ensure a top ten finish for the returning Alan Pardew - bet he's glad he left the sideshow at Newcastle behind earlier in the season.

The final monthly competition of 2014-2015 ends in glory for Ralph Goodwin with a score of 180 points. He finished ten clear of Con McSweeney with Brian Sotolongo in third place - full details below:
