Block 102 - The Midfielders

Every team which wins the Premiership needs goals from the midfield. The same can be said of our competition. You've got to select one of the five midfielders listed below and every time they score a goal this season they'll earn you a five point bonus.

There are some Youtube clips for each player to help you make up your mind....

Tim Cahill
Tim Cahill - Everton

Injury curtailed a good start to Cahill's third season with the Blues. He'd bagged seven goals in twelve matches. An injury against Aston Villa followed by another one against Sheffield United curtailed his season.

He joined Everton in time for the 2004-2005 season scoring 13 goals as Everton qualified for the Champions League for the first time. His habit of scoring goals against local rivals Liverpool has earned him cult status with the fans at Goodison Park.

The Australian international scored 52 goals in 204 starts for Millwall before his transfer to Merseyside. He has also scored 11 times for the national side in 23 appearances so far. Will he return from injury in 2007-2008 to repeat his form of 2004-2005?

Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard - Liverpool

Gerrard has won every major trophy possible at Liverpool except the Premiership. He's scored in the finals of the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Carling Cup. Next season will see the Premiership as the priority for the Reds' captain.

He's scored 44 league goals for Liverpool in 267 games - a goal on average every six games. His performances and knack of popping up with vital goals has made him one of the most sought after players in Europe.

Will he bounce back from disappointment in Athens in 2007-2008?

Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard - Chelsea

In seven seasons at Stamford Bridge Lampard has scored 61 goals in 223 appearances in the Premiership. He is now the highest scoring midfielder in Chelsea's history having overtaken Dennis Wise's previous record.

He's won plenty of honours since moving to Chelsea including two Premierships, an FA Cup and two League Cups. Following injury to John Terry he captained the side for a lot of last season.

He has also appeared 54 times for England scoring 12 goals in the process. After losing their crown to Man United last season Chelsea and Lampard will be looking to regain top spot in the Premiership. Will Lampard add to his impressive scoring record?

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo - Man United

Ronaldo was public enemy number one in England after getting Rooney sent off at the World Cup in 2006. If he wanted to prove a point, he did so in style scoring 17 goals in 34 Premiership games as United won the title in style. For his efforts he was named both Young and Senior Player of the Year by the PFA.

He has scored 35 Premiership goals in the four seasons since joining United from Sporting Lisbon for £12.24 million. He has also scored 17 goals for the Porteguese national side.

Will he be able to follow up last season's heroics in 2007-2008?

Robin Van Persie
Robin Van Persie - Arsenal

With Thierry Henry gone to the Nou Camp there's a vacancy to be filled at the Emirates Stadium. Injury curtailed his season last season but he still managed to score 11 goals in 21 appearances.

He scored one of the goals of last season - a left-footed volley against Charlton which Arsene Wenger described as "technically perfect".

His scoring record for Arsenal is almost one goal every three games. He's also scored 7 goals in 19 appearances for the Dutch national team.

Will he be able to stay free from injury and add to his goal tally this season?
