October 4th and 5th - Chelsea made it 19 points from 21 so far this season with a two-nil victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Eden Hazard created and scored the opener, converting a penalty after a fantastic solo run into box ended with a foul by Laurent Koscielny. The second came late on as former Gunner Cesc Fabregas set up yet another goal for Diego Costa. If Chelsea can keep Costa fit then it's hard to see beyond them in the title race. Man City dug out three points scoring twice very late on at Aston Villa. Yaya Toure opened the scoring in the last ten minutes with Sergio Aguero adding a second soon after as the champions dug out an important three points. Southampton are in third place following a one-nil defeat at Tottenham - Christian Eriksen scored the only goal at White Hart Lane. David de Gea got the plaudits at Old Trafford as he helped Man United climb to fourth place following a two-one win at home to Everton. A penalty stop from Leighton Baines was one of a string of saves as goals from Di Maria and Falcao sent the United fans home to London and Cornwall happy. Elsewhere, Liverpool picked up a vital three points beating West Brom two-one at Anfield - Jordan Henderson scored the winner in that one. West Ham are upto seventh in the table following a two-nil win at home to QPR - not the happy homecoming Harry Redknapp was expecting. Sunderland picked up their first win of the season - they beat Stoke three-one at the Stadium of Light with previously misfiring strikers Conor Wickham and Steve Fletcher sharing the goals. Hull are just outside the top half of the table after Steve Bruce got one over his former employers Crystal Palace, leading his current side to a two-nil win. Finally, Alan Pardew is still in a job at the time of writing after Papiss Cisse twice equalised in a two-all draw at Swansea. The early leaderboard for October sees the lead shared between last season's winner Jonathan Fox and the August monthly winner Padraic Carney. They're both on 65 points, with five players close behind on 60: |

October 18th and 19th - The twenty-one people who picked Sergio Aguero as one of their bonus point choices will be quite happy this weekend. The Argentinian striker scored all four goals as Man City beat Spurs four-one at the Etihad. There were also two missed penalties in that game - crucially, Roberto Soldado missed for the visitors with the score poised at two-one to City. Chelsea won two-one at Crystal Palace later on Saturday to maintain their five point lead at the top - Oscar and Fabregas scored for the leaders in that one, showing on ill-effects of the absence of Diego Costa through injury. Southampton continue to defy the odds and remain in third place after hammering Sunderland eight-nil at St Marys. Gus Poyet might just have become the favourite for the sack race after that result. Sam Allardyce celebrated his 60th birthday this weekend with his West Ham side climbing to fourth in the table after beating Burnley three-one at Turf Moor. Burnley are now the only side without a win after Newcastle beat Leicester one-nil at St James's Park. Obertan scored the winner in that one to ease the pressure on Alan Pardew. Everton also picked up a much needed win. They scored three without reply against Aston Villa at Goodison Park - the goals came from Jagielka, Lukaku and Coleman. Arsenal needed an injury time equaliser from Danny Welbeck to earn a point at home to Hull - it's one win in seven now for Arsene Wenger's side.... Sunday's early game saw Liverpool somehow win a thriller three-two at QPR. Rangers actually scored four times but two were own goals as Liverpool stole the points following a 95th minute own goal from Steven Caulker. The Reds are now in fifth place ahead of the visit of Real Madrid on Wednesday night (Jesus wept..). Stoke rounded off Sunday's action with a two-one win over Swansea. Wilfried Bony opened the scoring but goals from Charlie Adam and Jonathan Walters saw the home side emerge victorious. Con McSweeney and Gavin Morgan now lead the October competition - they have 125 points each. They're ten clear of Fiachra Moynihan in third place - full details below: |

October 25th and 26th - Chelsea looked to be cruising towards a six point lead at the top of the table as they entered stoppage time at Old Trafford leading the hosts one-nil. However, in a nod to the former manager, Robin van Persie struck deep in injury time to earn a point for United and cancel out Didier Drogba's opener. Those dropped points leave Chelsea four points clear of Southampton in second place. After the summer clear out at St Marys, not even the most optimistic Saints fan would have predicted this start but a one-nil win over Stoke leaves them on 19 points after nine games. West Ham beat Man City two-one at Upton Park to consolidate fourth spot and move within one point of the visitors in third place. Goals from Amalfatino and Sakho had Sam Allardyce's side two up before David Silva pulled one back for the champions - all to no avail in the end. Alexis Sanchez scored twice at the Stadium of Light as Arsenal moved up to fifth place with a two-nil win at Sunderland. Elsewhere on Saturday, Liverpool continued to fire blanks. On the same day Luis Suarez made his debut for Barcelona, his former side failed to muster a goal against Hull in a frustrating nil-all draw. Wilfried Bony scored both goals as Swansea beat Leicester two-nil in Wales. West Brom needed a late penalty from Sandro Berahino to earn a point in a two-all draw with Crystal Palace. Sunday's other games saw Everton win three-one at Burnley. Samuel Eto'o scored twice in that one to leave Burnley as the only side in the four divisions in England without a win so far this season. Spurs suffered another European hangover as they lost two-one at home to Newcastle. QPR's two-nil win against Aston Villa confirmed Con McSweeney as the monthly winner for October - full details below: |
